Maria Tjui

Maria Tjui (1934 - 2016) was active/lived in Indonesia.  Maria Tjui is known for Folk art style painting of figures in landscape, floral still life.

The world of art in mourning. A senior artist forces the 1960s, has passed away. She is Maria Tjui, Indonesian female painter born in Pariaman, West Sumatra, May 14, 1934.
Maria Tjui began to study painting at the age of 20 (1955-1958) by joining the Seniman Indonesia Muda (SIM), Yogyakarta under the guidance of S. Sudjojono. Then she finalizing membership to pursue studies painted sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Indonesia (ASRI), Yogyakarta (1961-1963).

During college, she briefly held first solo exhibition at Balai Budaya Jakarta (1962). Graduated from college, the third of seven siblings chose to stay in the village of Peliatan, Ubud, Bali (1964). Here's where Mary spent her old age, to know nature and appreciate the culture of Balinese. Not surprisingly, some of her paintings take on the background area of Bali with the social and cultural conditions. Not only work, she also founded the studio with the painter Peliatan Purnama.
